Foam microbrewery coming
August 14, 2008
I’ve been dropping tidbits about this project for months so I figured it was about time I produced some more details. Especially since this Benton Park West microbrewery will finally be open soon. I managed to meet up with owner Mike Glodeck yesterday and finally got a chance to take a look inside. Read more
Stable review online
August 14, 2008
I’m not the right guy to review the quality of a restaurant so I figured I would point you to someone more qualified. Joe Bonwich just reviewed the Stable in the Post Dispatch and you can see it for yourself here. I was happy with my food during my one visit there for dinner, but I really entjoyed the late night atmoshpere, which I sampled twice. The outdoor seating area looks to be about done and business seams to be booming. If only they would get their in house brewing and distiling up and running.
Park West Grille mural
July 31, 2008
The side of Park West Grille (2917 Jefferson Ave) just got a face lift. Check out this great looking mural that now advertises the site as you drive along the burgeoning South Jefferson Commerical District. It adds a nice touch to the strip, don’t you think.
Lemp Brewery misinformation
July 29, 2008
I know I focus a lot on local matters on this site, but I also like to keep up on national and regional real estate investment news as well. Whether I find info via magazines or online, I always think its a good idea. Seeing as most of this news is beyond my ability to verify, I usually take these stories at face value. Maybe I should rethink that policy.
Check out this article from the June issue of Multifamily Executive entitled A New Brew. Its about St. Louis’ own Lemp Brewery in Benton Park. WHile its great to see the property in the national media, the artilceis less than accurate in terms of details. THe article acts as if the redevelopment of the old brewery had already started. I don’t knwo who they have been talking to, but maybe they should verify their sources. Makes you wonder how many other articles out their are balogna.
Hydraulic Brick Lofts
July 8, 2008
I always love unexpected developments. If you have been following the death of the Fleur de Lis project at Jefferson & Arsenal, you will understand why the lack of activity at the site is so upsetting. I have really started to get used the fact the the lot might sit there for years. And then I drove by site this afternoon. The new home of a large sign displaying a new upcoming project: the Hydraulic Brick Lofts. Read more
Mattingly Brewing Co. opens
June 5, 2008
A couple of months ago I posted about a pair of upcoming microbreweries opening this June in the Benton Park neighborhood of South St. Louis. I happy to say the the first of the pair, Mattingly Brewing Co, finally opened last week. I had a chance to take a look at the finished product and sample some of the food this afternoon. From what I have seen so far, things are looking promising. Read more
The Stable microbrewery
May 6, 2008
About a month ago I posted about a couple of microbreweries coming to the Benton Park Neighborhood of St. Louis in the coming months: Mattingly Brewing Company and the Stable. Info has been scarce on the Stable until I got a email from a reader a couple weeks back. Thanks to that contact, I had the opportunity to tour the facility this morning and chat with one of the owners. I’m happy to say that the project is coming along great and that they are on track for a June opening. Read more
Gus’ Pretzels improvements
April 2, 2008
Nothing is quite as healthy as a meal consisting of bratzel (a bratwurst wrapped in a pretzel) and a bag of pretzel sticks. Or at least that is what I tell myself when I stop by Gus’ Pretzels twice a week. In business for almost 90 years, Gus’ is a St. Louis establishment akin to Ted Drew’s. Considering my love for the place, I couldn’t have been happier when I heard that they were going to make some significant improvements to the facade of the building. Read more
Two new Benton Park microbreweries
April 1, 2008
They say that good things come in pairs. I’ve always been rather fond of microbreweries, so I guess in stands to reason that they would hold to this rule. If everything goes as planned, the Benton Park Neighborhood of South St. Louis, will be home to two such establishments by the end of 2008: Mattingly Brewing Company and The Stable. Read more
Improving Benton Park
March 20, 2008
Although the Neighborhood of Benton Park has continually improved in recent years, the park of the same name has long sat idle. Its ugly, its not user friendly, and its just not nice. Read more
